Your Fitness Prescription…
…work with me 1-to-1 to get stronger, leaner and healthier
Hi, I’m Scott,
Chances are, if you are reading this today, you are in similar, or worse shape than I was a few years back before I started taking control of my health and fitness.
You’ve been looking for a solution, but everywhere you look you see personal trainers who are much younger than you and probably don’t have many of the aches and pains you and I do.
This is what we have to deal with as older folks!
Here’s what I am personally dealing with…
- A lower back issue for the last 20 years that first appeared as a herniated disc… not fun.
- Terrible arthritis in my feet. I wear sneakers 99% of the time now.
- Arthritis in my neck from an old skiing injury.
- A modest rotator cuff issue in my left shoulder.
Yeah, getting old is a bummer, but it could be worse.
Older relatives close to me are in much worse shape, living a quality of life I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
Lack of mobility will be a big issue for people of my generation if they don’t start taking their health and fitness more seriously.
In fact, the CDC indicates that my generation, people 40 to 60, have the highest rate of obesity of any existing generation.
Thus, given that I’ve been able to successfully tackle my obesity, I feel obligated to help people like you.
Or, perhaps you aren’t necessarily obese, but in need of building strength and muscle. I can help you with that as well.
Who Am I?
Well, I am not a personal trainer, a doctor or physical therapist.
I AM a former competitive athlete (swimmer in high school, D1 college golfer), 1st degree blackbelt in the art of Pai Lum, self-defense instructor and former golf instructor.
I recently turned 59 years old and I continue to put significant work into my own health and fitness.
Back in early 2020, my wife and I had purchased a small house. While it was under contract, I felt it was a good idea to get some life insurance.
So, a nurse arrived, took my blood, and my bloodwork came back not so good.
At the time I weighed about 210 pounds and my triglycerides and cholesterol were at higher levels than ever before.
As soon as we moved in, I ordered up some fitness equipment… an Olympic barbell set and power rack to go with my existing adjustable dumbbells.
Eventually, I also purchased an exercise bike as well.
I was lucky. I ordered this equipment just before the Covid Pandemic hit, otherwise I would have paid triple what I paid.
Remember when all the gyms were shut down for months?
I was also lucky in that in this neighborhood, we found a small house with a garage. Only about half the homes in the neighborhood have one.
Anyhow, I put my equipment together one day in February 2020 and decided I would push out some reps with my new barbell.
I put one 45 pound plate on each end of the bar (for a total of 135 pounds including the bar) and thought I would bang out some bench press reps.
This was my old warm up weight back in the day, so I wasn’t expecting any difficulty.
Well, I managed 4 reps!
That was a massive wake up call for me.
While I had indeed gained weight over time, I had at least kept up with doing some push ups semi-regularly among other exercises.
What I didn’t realize was how much muscle mass and strength I had lost over the prior 15 years.
Long story short… strength training has become the primary focus of my fitness routine ever since, and it has paid major dividends.
I’ve gained muscle, lost fat and the weight stays consistently between 185 and 190.
What I Can Do For You, Personally
Not everyone wants to do barbell squats and deadlifts like I do, and that is perfectly ok.
While I truly believe that barbell training is the best and most efficient way to build strength and muscle, not everyone wants to do that.
This is where my life experience comes into play.
I’ve learned a ton of different exercises over the years through my martial arts training along with training programs such as P90X, Insanity, and Navy SEAL routines.
Therefore, I can put together customized training programs for anyone interested in taking back control of their health and fitness.
Through my martial arts training, I also have experience with meditation, breath work and forms training to help in training the mind and body in other ways besides lifting weights and standard cardio training.
Additionally, I learned what I needed to change in regard to my diet and nutrition to be sure I achieve my strength and fitness goals (which continue to be an ongoing process).
With all this in mind, I have the knowledge to help you improve your health and fitness so that you will have a better opportunity to live a high-quality life, just in case you reach and advanced age.
