I really wanted to be done with politics.  Just observe from afar and go about my business.

I had accepted as far back as June that Joe Biden might become president.  Within a few days after digesting the election results, I accepted the reality that a man who…

  • Twice before failed to win the Democrat nomination
  • Failed to finish in the top 3 in the first two primaries/caucuses in 2020
  • Was a major sponsor of the 1994 crime bill the resulted in the lopside incarceration of thousands of African Americans
  • Was credibly accused of sexual assault (he literally was accused of grabbing a woman’s vagina, but no pussy hats for Joe!)
  • And through a 47 year career in DC, really had little to show for it

…Had indeed won the election.

Well, I accepted this reality, but with extremely low expectations since I’ve watched this man’s career since at least 1988.  He never appeared to me to be the sharpest pencil in the box.

But, after a little less than 24 hours passed since his inauguration, I couldn’t help myself.

The executive orders issued by Biden on his first day in office suggest to me that we have some dark times ahead.

Seriously, during a pandemic that has cost millions their jobs and livelihoods, Biden lifts restrictions on travel and immigration; pulls back the permit on the Keystone XL pipeline and issues an order that public schools will lose federal funding if they don’t allow transgender (biological males) athletes to compete against girls.

Then, after having 25,000 National Guard troops brought in to safeguard his inauguration, he kicks them out of the Federal buildings in which they were staying and sleeping, and sends them off to a garage with no heat.

So, bottom line is, Biden has lived down to my expectations, and probably done worse than I could imagine in his first 36 hours.

But, those of us who actually paid attention to his campaign, and didn’t just hate on Trump, knew what to expect.

The reason I find it hard to avoid politics is the impact they have on our everyday lives.

Removing the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline literally costs tens of thousands of jobs almost instantly.  Ted Cruz asked Biden’s nominee for Labor Secretary, Pete Buttigieg about this, and the reply was simply… they’ll have to find other jobs.

In a pandemic.  All you can do is shake your head at the stupidity and arrogance.

But, this is exactly what I expected, because it is what we got from the Obama administration.  We have all the same characters coming in to make all the decisions.

There is no concern about the well being of every citizen in this country.  It’s all about transforming the country into one run by elitists who make every decision for us with the goal of achieving equal outcomes for all.

All, except them of course.  They will keep their wealth and power while everyone else suffers through years of higher energy costs, weak job growth, non-existent income growth, etc.

So, I will rant about politics, but will also provide ideas to help people deal with the policy ramifications.

While I do sincerely hope Biden succeeds in bringing some sense of unity again, and building upon the solid economic foundation that Trump provided for him, I have serious doubts.

Time will tell.
