A retired, 80 year old U.S. Senator, Barbara Boxer, was mugged in Oakland in broad daylight today.

This occurred after I viewed a video on Twitter of an assault and robbery in NYC, also in broad daylight.

This is the world we live in now.

Today, I was out jogging, and as I was approaching a corner, there was an older man with a dog approaching that corner from the street perpendicular to the one I was on.

As I got closer, it was clear he did not see me, so I made sure to give him a wide berth.

Why did he not see me?

His face was buried in his phone.  He was literally oblivious to the world.

Experienced criminals look for opportunities like that every single day, and they are doing it in broad daylight now.

They can do this, and get away with it, because the world we live in now prefers that people wear a mask.

In the assault I viewed on Twitter, the assailant wore a hoodie, covering his head, and a mask.  There was no way to ID him unless you know him.

Thus, the NYPD is offering a reward for information leading to his capture.

One hates to preach, but if you are not taking steps to prepare for potential violence, you are setting yourself up to become a victim.
